Viruses aren’t always the bad guys…

Recently, I talked about the fascinating ways viruses have actually helped humans over time.

Today, I’d like to tell you about a specific type of virus that lives in your gut microbiome.  Understanding how to manage this virus may be the key to warding off chronic disease.

3 Food Prep Lessons to Take to Your Next Picnic

By David Blyweiss, M.D., Advanced Natural Wellness

November 27, 2020

My family used to have huge picnics… truly huge.

Hundreds of my relatives would gather in Pennsylvania to enjoy an enormous spread of delicious food.

At the time, I always loved eating the meals prepared by my aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents.  I just worked hard to avoid that potato salad sitting out in the sunshine for three hours straight (you know the one).

But there was one thing I’ve always done that got me a few looks… Continue reading

When I was a child, I remember peering down into the bottom of my grandma’s milk container.

Sloshing around with the last drops of milk, I could see a curious item… a silver coin.

Now, at the time, I didn’t give this much thought.  It’s just what my grandma did. But today, I understand the brilliance behind her strange habit.

You see, silver has some surprising health benefits!  Let me explain… Continue reading

Have you ever been on a cruise?  What I wouldn’t give for a few days in the sun relaxing in a lounge chair… I love cruises.

In fact, I often give medical seminars to large groups of people while cruising the high seas.  I suppose the attendees like to vacation and learn all at the same time.  Honestly, it’s loads of fun.

I enjoy talking about the most important health topics that affect us all. One of the topics that comes up fairly often is how to prevent aging. Continue reading

Really, Are Viruses Good or Bad?

By David Blyweiss, M.D., Advanced Natural Wellness

November 9, 2020

With our current pandemic, it’s easy to see viruses as the enemy.  They seem like something to be feared, hated, and avoided at all costs.

I get it.

But viruses don’t have to be the bad guys.  In fact, you might be surprised by the important role they have played in our own human evolution. Continue reading

Bacon and Your Kidneys: A Cautionary Tale

By David Blyweiss, M.D., Advanced Natural Wellness

October 23, 2020

Years ago, I loved to tempt my dog with cooking bacon.

I’d invite him into the kitchen and watch him sit patiently on the edge of the carpet while I worked over the stove.  Bacon would sizzle and hiss as it cooked up into crisp strips.  The smell would drive my pup crazy.

He’d sit there, trying his best to be a “good dog,” while saliva slowly started leaking out the sides of his mouth. Continue reading

CBD Oil May Be What the Doctor Ordered for Your Brain Health

By David Blyweiss, M.D., Advanced Natural Wellness

October 5, 2020

This year sure has been one for the books!

I’m feeling it on my end too.  Despite all the hardship, I’ve been working hard on a few new projects.  And I’m getting excited about some newer treatments that are starting to gain popularity.

One of the most interesting new treatments I get asked about is cannabidiol (CBD oil). For the longest time, hemp-derived CBD was grouped together with medical marijuana.  It was illegal in most places and taboo to talk about. Continue reading

The Surprising Link Between Gut and Brain Health

By David Blyweiss, M.D., Advanced Natural Wellness

October 2, 2020

Did you ever get a “gut feeling” about something? Well, next time, you should trust that feeling.

That’s because your gut – or your intestinal tract – actually has a fascinating secret to share… it’s your second brain!

I know this sounds a bit crazy, but let me explain how it works. Imagine yourself as an embryo forming in your mother’s belly.  You were just one or two weeks old. Continue reading

Why Your Feet are Such a Mess

By David Blyweiss, M.D., Advanced Natural Wellness

September 21, 2020

I’m not a podiatrist, but as a physician I’ve seen more than my share of feet. Patients come in with blisters, toenail fungus, athlete’s foot, calluses and more.

It always surprises me how little attention people give to their feet… especially men. Folks come in looking perfectly coiffed and neatly dressed.

Then, they pull off their shoes… and there it is! Continue reading

An Exciting New Way to Walk

By David Blyweiss, M.D., Advanced Natural Wellness

September 16, 2020

I love to go walking on the fitness trail at my local park.  I walk briskly around the one-mile loop while enjoying some quality time outdoors.

In fact, I often recommend to my patients they add daily movement to their routine.  It’s as simple as picking a direction and walking for twenty minutes… and then walking home!

Walking really is good for you, but it’s not the best.  It alone isn’t enough to improve whole body strength, coordination and fitness. Still, many of my patients, friends, and even family members use walking as their primary form of physical activity. Continue reading
