Go from Scrawny to Brawny in a Matter of Weeks

By David Blyweiss, M.D., Advanced Natural Wellness

February 6, 2019

One of the top recommendations I have for all my patients – and everyone else I meet – is to get moving!

It’s the one thing that can help you stay in top physical and mental shape as you age. In fact, when you exercise regularly you are twice as likely to remain functionally fit and disease free over the next 10 years of your life.

And when you look at the other benefits, it’s not hard to be sold on the concept. Continue reading

Shrink Your Waistline to Grow Your Brain

By David Blyweiss, M.D., Advanced Natural Wellness

February 4, 2019

There are a lot great reasons to maintain a healthy weight. I hear about many of them from my own patients.

  • “I want to look hot again!” says the pudgy 32-year old single mom.
  • “I’m sick of dealing with these damned sugar problems,” declares an overweight middle-age patient with diabetes.
  • “With all the huffing and puffing I do just to get out of my chair, I’m afraid I’ll have a heart attack or something,” frets an obese gentleman in his 60’s.
  • “My knees are killing me,” complains a chubby young executive.

But in all of my years as a physician, there is one extremely important reason to lose weight that has never shows up on my radar. I’ve never heard a single patient say they wanted to drop those extra pounds to protect their cognitive abilities or ward off dementia. Continue reading

What to Do When You Can’t Poop

By David Blyweiss, M.D., Advanced Natural Wellness

February 1, 2019

Patients come into my office for all sorts of reasons. Their visits can be for almost anything – from chronic and difficult-to-treat conditions to unexpected emergencies or minor health concerns.

But quite a few of these patients, no matter where they fall on the health spectrum, have something in common.

They’re clogged up and can’t poop. Continue reading

Good Alternative for Colonoscopy

By David Blyweiss, M.D., Advanced Natural Wellness

January 30, 2019

Sometimes it seems like one of the most difficult tasks I have as a physician is getting certain patients to schedule a colonoscopy.

Some of them are terrified the gastroenterologist will be sloppy. Maybe punch a hole through their intestines. Or do something to cause hemorrhaging or an infection. Perhaps cause some other type of permanent or deadly damage.

Others just don’t want to chug down a foul-tasting liquid laxative and spend all night running to the toilet.

In the end, many of them flat out refuse to take part in the process. And I certainly can’t make them do it! Continue reading

I Love These Stinking Foods!

By David Blyweiss, M.D., Advanced Natural Wellness

January 23, 2019

Onions make you cry. Garlic gives you bad breath. And a lot of people don’t even know what a leek or shallot is.

But these are all some of my favorite foods.

I try to save heavy doses of them for weekends when I know I don’t have to see patients the following day.

But I couldn’t resist ordering the garlic and green onion hummus appetizer when I went out to dinner last night. And the wild mushroom soup with roasted garlic was definitely calling my name. Continue reading

Are Your Eyes a Window to Dementia?

By David Blyweiss, M.D., Advanced Natural Wellness

January 21, 2019

There is an obvious reason to take good care of your eyes. To protect your vision.

But there is another reason that is equally important. It’s something people don’t hear much about. So it always comes as a surprise to my patients when I tell them this:

“If you want to protect your brain, it’s urgent that you take immediate measures to support healthy vision.”

It sounds crazy, right? But it’s not. Continue reading

Outlawed drug now legal in all 50 states

By David Blyweiss, M.D., Advanced Natural Wellness

January 18, 2019

These days more and more patients are asking me about cannabidiol (CBD oil).

And today I can tell them something I couldn’t a month ago: Hemp-derived CBD oil is now legal in all 50 states!

You can legally buy it. You can legally use it. And no prescription is required. Continue reading

I Eat These Like M&Ms

By David Blyweiss, M.D., Advanced Natural Wellness

January 16, 2019

Fresh organic blueberries are, by far, one of my favorite snacks.

Most of the time I eat them the same way people eat M&Ms. I just toss a small handful into my mouth, then savor the sweet burst of flavor that explodes when I bite into them.

Some of my patients have noticed this strange little “addiction” of mine. One of my long-time patients even teases me about it… she calls me Dr. Blue-weiss instead of Dr. Blyweiss.

Well I’ll be honest with you. The taste alone is enough to have me hooked on these tiny berries. I might even eat them if they were bad for me.

But they aren’t! Continue reading

Why So Many People are Dying of Embarrassment

By David Blyweiss, M.D., Advanced Natural Wellness

January 11, 2019

Every now and then I meet with a shame-faced patient.

It’s not because they did anything wrong. They just feel like they did something stupid.

I’m talking about R.B, whose daughter rushed her to the emergency room in the middle of the night because she was having chest pains. It turned out to be nothing more than a bad case of heartburn. (They call it heartburn for a reason!)

I’m also talking about J.T. – a big man who experienced severe stomach cramps, excruciating back pain and nausea in the wee hours of the morning. He thought it was food poisoning or a ruptured appendix. Continue reading

Busting Through the Carbohydrate Myth

By David Blyweiss, M.D., Advanced Natural Wellness

January 7, 2019

In the January 2nd issue of Advanced Natural Wellness we took the first step in addressing the age old diet question: Is a low-fat or low-carb diet the best for weight-loss and health?

And the answer is pretty simple.

When you eat the right kind of fats and carbohydrates, you don’t need to cut either of them from your diet.

And believe me! Cutting out fats and replacing them with the wrong kind of carbs can be deadly. Continue reading
