The Hidden Reason You Aren’t Losing Weight

By David Blyweiss, M.D., Advanced Natural Wellness

November 28, 2018

In last Monday’s issue of Advanced Natural Wellness, I talked about the risk of excess body weight – particularly central obesity – when it comes to mortality rates.

This isn’t a new topic.

But it did generate a lot of questions from readers who are dealing with extremely stubborn belly fat. They’re sick of it. They want to get rid of it. But in some cases, they don’t feel that exercise and diet are working for them.

So today I want to dig a little deeper into something that may be sabotaging your weight loss efforts… and share some of the strategies I use in my own practice to help patients demolish deadly central obesity. And with great success! Continue reading

The Problem with BMI

By David Blyweiss, M.D., Advanced Natural Wellness

November 26, 2018

The other day a new study hit my desk. And it confirms the results of every other study done on the topic of body mass…

…A high BMI increases your chances of an early death!

This isn’t breaking news.

You know as well as I do that being overweight is detrimental to your health. And sadly, nearly 75% of Americans are overweight or obese. I see it every day here in my own practice.

On the other hand, I don’t necessarily agree that BMI is always the best indicator of obesity. Or early death. Continue reading

My Grandma’s Secret Recipe against Colds

By David Blyweiss, M.D., Advanced Natural Wellness

November 23, 2018

Now that we’re in late fall, the common cold is running rampant. And every day – several times a day, in fact – I am hearing the same question over and over again.

“Doctor B, what can I take to get rid of this horrible cold?”

They want to know which over-the-counter cold and cough medicine I recommend. Some of them want me to call in a prescription for antibiotics, thinking that it might help them recover more quickly.

The first thing I do is remind the patients asking for antibiotics that these drugs are only for bacterial infections. They do nothing to stop or cure viral infections like a cold or flu.

And as far as OTC cold remedies are concerned, they don’t speed up the healing process either. They just mask the symptoms. Plus, some of the ingredients found in them are pretty bad for you. Continue reading

Old Age Doesn’t Cause Alzheimer’s. This Does

By David Blyweiss, M.D., Advanced Natural Wellness

November 21, 2018

The National Institute of Aging says: “Increasing age is the most important known risk factor for Alzheimer’s.”

Well, that’s just a bunch of baloney.

Alzheimer’s disease is NOT a natural result of aging. Even worse, most of today’s beliefs about the disease are flat-out wrong. Continue reading

The Graphic Truth About Red Meat

By David Blyweiss, M.D., Advanced Natural Wellness

November 16, 2018

Patients often ask me if eating grass-fed beef is worth the effort. After all, the conventional meat they buy at the grocery store tastes just fine. And the mouth-watering prime rib or filet mignon at their favorite restaurant isn’t grass-fed either.

“So what’s the big deal, Doc?” they ask. “Give me one good reason to switch.”

When this happens I shake my head and sigh. I know I’m going to have to do something I don’t like doing…

…I’m going to have to get graphic to get my point across. Continue reading

Aspirin: Cure that’s Worse than the Disease

By David Blyweiss, M.D., Advanced Natural Wellness

November 12, 2018

I’ve never agreed with the idea of prescribing low-dose aspirin in an attempt to ward off heart disease.

The idea behind the concept is simple. Aspirin works as a blood-thinner. This means it helps reduce the risk of blood clots that could block an artery and cause a heart attack.

I’ll admit. It sounds great in theory. And all of those TV commercial ads make aspirin sound like a wonder drug.

It’s no wonder my patients often ask me if they should be taking low-dose aspirin every day! Continue reading

15 Minutes a Day to shave 9 years off

By David Blyweiss, M.D., Advanced Natural Wellness

November 7, 2018

Bette Davis once said, “Old age is no place for sissies.” And I’ll tell you. I’ve met more than my share of patients who seem to share this sentiment. These are the ones who seem to think aging is a slow and tortured downward spiral.

They expect to grow old, sick and feeble as the years go by. And while it’s unfortunate, it’s a trait I see in a lot of people. And some of that is reinforced by physicians who respond to their patient’s complaints with “ you should expect that at your age”.

But it doesn’t have to be that way. You actually have a great deal more control over the aging process then you might imagine. Continue reading

Is Perfect Blood Sugar Possible?

By David Blyweiss, M.D., Advanced Natural Wellness

November 5, 2018

D.J. was in a tizzy when she came into my office. She’s a seasonal resident (snow bird) who just arrived in South Florida for the winter. And only a couple weeks ago she was diagnosed as pre-diabetic by her physician up in Wisconsin.

After talking with her, he wrote out a prescription for Metformin. (That’s the only medication recommended by the American Diabetes Association to delay the onset of diabetes.)

He also explained that if she progressed to type 2 diabetes she would be at greater risk of a cardiovascular event. So he wanted her to start taking a low-dose statin, too.

At the time she thought it all sounded extremely reasonable.

But the drugs are making her dizzy and giving her diarrhea. They also make her “feel funny” – but not in a good way.

“Could you give me something else?” she asked.

That was the wrong question. Continue reading

The TRUTH about HGH

By David Blyweiss, M.D., Advanced Natural Wellness

October 31, 2018

The other day one of my patients, a 45-year old car dealer, asked me about HGH injections.

“I’m getting flabby and have almost zero energy,” he told me. “I can’t keep up with my wife, let alone my kids. But a guy at work started taking it and he says the changes are incredible.”

I hear this kind of story a lot. And there is plenty of weight behind the desire to boost levels of this youth hormone. Continue reading

Change Your Genes to Save Your Life

By David Blyweiss, M.D., Advanced Natural Wellness

October 24, 2018

  • Your genes are not your destiny
  • Switch on your disease-fighting genes
  • Shut down your cancer genes with broccoli… and more!

“Should I have my DNA tested to see what diseases I’m at risk for?”

This is a question I hear more and more often these days. And I understand the appeal. It’s human nature to want to know as much about ourselves as possible. DNA testing is a great way to get some of those answers.

So if you want to try it out, I’m not going to discourage you. But I do have a couple of observations to make. Continue reading
